The Moon Update

Celebrating EarthMC's 10-year anniversary, we're bringing you a very special gameplay update. Available today, players can travel to the moon. Craft a rocket, load it with hydrogen fuel and make sure to bring enough oxygen bottles to make it back alive. Traveling to the moon won't be easy, but towns creating outposts on the moon will soon realize the riches that await below the moon's surface.
EarthMC is a Minecraft Java server. Experience this update and much more by joining using the address join.earthmc.net. Check out the detailed join instructions if you need help.
Go to the moon in Minecraft
Traveling the moon will require some planning. Everything on the moon wants to kill you, lack of oxygen, dangerous mobs, and not to mention space bandits taking advantage of PvP being enabled everywhere, even in claims.

The moon is far away and requires powerful rockets to get there. The first stage rocket can be crafted. Once launched from the surface of earth, the rocket will take you through the atmosphere and eventually dock with the main space shuttle. The space shuttle will take you for a 10 minute one-way trip to the moon.
After the journey through the vastness of space, you will land nearby your town's outpost, if you're lucky to have one already.
The Moon World
Terra Luna, the new frontier. This vast Minecraft moon world is 35k by 17.5k blocks, matching the scale of the real moon proportional to our current minecraft earth map. Its terrain is rough: flat stretches broken up by dense craters and giant pits. Underground, gold spawns at a higher rate than on earth, which gives you a real reason to mine there. This is deliberate, for two reasons. First, the moon is a dangerous place to travel to, and those who come well prepared and make it back to earth should be rewarded for taking that risk. Second, it makes the moon the ideal mining location, which helps preserve the custom earth map and extend its lifespan. A long-lasting map and an item-based economy are a big part of why EarthMC is considered the most popular Minecraft economy server, and the moon update helps keep that true far into the future.

Moon gameplay features
Claim land with Towny outposts
You can claim land on the moon using the command /t claim outpost, which costs 256 gold. Outposts can be expanded using /t claim, which costs 16 gold per additional claim. Claims count towards your default town claim limit. Each town can at most have one moon outpost.

Outposts offer several convenient benefits:
- Oxygen does not deplete inside claims
- If your town has an outpost, your rocket and other town members' rockets will always land nearby
- Outposts allow for safe storage of items and work similarly to town claims back on earth
Grief and claim-related rules will be enforced to a lesser extent on the moon.
Low gravity and double jump

The moon features reduced gravity, closely mimicking the gravity on the real moon. We've done this using the gravity attribute introduced by Mojang in 1.20.5, allowing for a smooth client-native experience. In order to jump higher, equip your moon boots which allow for double jumping while on the moon.
PvP is enabled everywhere
PvP is enabled everywhere, even in claims, and cannot be disabled. Make sure to have your weapons close at hand.
Ender chests are disabled
Ender chests are not available on the moon. Any gold you find on the moon needs to be sent back by rocket!
Dying
You will instantly respawn back on earth if you die on the moon.
Live web map
You can see claims and visible players on the interactive web map. Toggle between earth and moon in the top right corner.
Dangerous moon mobs

While exploring the moon you may encounter more difficult versions of zombies, skeletons, and endermen. These mobs spawn at 20 hearts (40 HP), 12 armor points, dealing 8 attack damage and at a 1.5x scale - making them challenging opponents while exploring the moon.
Oxygen system
You need to bring a cosmonaut helmet, if you go to the moon without one, you'll quickly suffocate and die! These helmets come with 100 units of oxygen and deplete 1 oxygen unit per 15 seconds. Helmets can be refilled using oxygen bottles. Each oxygen bottle contains 10 units of oxygen. In short, 1 helmet contains 25 minutes worth of oxygen and 1 bottle contains 2.5 minutes worth of oxygen.
Returning to earth
Use the rocket item to launch yourself back to the space shuttle, which will take you on a 10 minute journey back to earth. Similar to real life, you will crash land in a deep ocean biome.
Moon items
The moon update brings the following special items.
Titanium ingots
Titanium ingots have a small chance to drop when mining any ore on earth, except nether quartz. Titanium ingots are rare, lightweight and very strong. These ingots are a central part of space-related crafting recipes.
Titanium casing

Titanium casings can withstand high temperatures and are used to craft rockets.
Titanium casing recipe:
- 5 titanium ingots
- 4 gold blocks
Cosmonaut Helmet

Required to breathe on the moon.
Cosmonaut helmet recipe:
- 2 titanium ingots
- 1 nether star
- 1 tinted glass

Brewing recipe:
- Water bottles
- Blaze powder
- Redstone block
Moon Boots

Allows you to double jump on the moon when worn at a cost of consuming durability. Provides 2 armor points, same as the iron boots. You can only repair them with titanium ingots.
Crafting recipe:

- 2 netherite ingots
Rockets

Required to travel to the space shuttle. Must be refueled using 16 hydrogen bottles after use.
Crafting recipes:
